Every floor is different. These are the questions homeowners usually ask before a refinishing, stair, or custom flooring project.
Most refinishing jobs take a few days to sand and coat, then a little time for the finish to cure before the furniture goes back. Bigger rooms, stairs, or custom work take longer. Once we see the floor, we’ll give you a real timeline — not a guess.
You’ll want to stay off the floors while they cure, and sanding does create dust, so most people plan to be out of the work area for a few days. We contain the dust as much as possible and clean up carefully before the job is finished.
Neither is automatically better; they are different. Oil-based finish ambers warmly over time and is extremely tough. Water-based finish dries faster, stays clearer, and has less odor. We’ll walk you through the right option for your floor, color, and household.
Done right, a refinish lasts years — often a decade or more before it needs another pass. The quality of the prep, finish, and long-term care makes the difference.
